Exploration Guide: Getting the Most From Expeditions

Exploration is one of the more passive systems in the game, which is exactly why it's easy to under-optimize โ€” it doesn't demand your attention the way combat or building queues do, but the choices you make still matter.

Hero selection for exploration

Prioritize heroes with strong exploration-specific bonuses (resource find, troop load, march speed) over your best combat heroes for this specific system โ€” the heroes that carry a rally aren't necessarily the heroes that make exploration efficient.

Don't send your best troops on expeditions

Since exploration risk is generally lower than active combat, sending your absolute strongest troops out is usually unnecessary and just ties them up when you might need them for defense. A capable but not maxed squad is usually the right balance.

Keep expeditions running continuously

An idle expedition slot is the same kind of waste as an idle build queue โ€” if you have exploration capacity available, use it. The returns are modest individually but consistent, and consistency is where the real value comes from.

Balance exploration against your other priorities

Exploration shouldn't come at the direct expense of your defensive garrison or your main economy โ€” it's a supplemental system, not a primary one. Treat it as something you optimize once your fundamentals are handled, not before.

Checking in periodically

Because exploration runs in the background, it's easy to forget about entirely. Build a habit of checking your exploration status alongside your other daily routine items so slots don't sit idle for longer than necessary.
